There is no universal “best” peptide. The right candidate is the peptide that fits the cosmetic positioning, remains compatible with the array matrix and process, can be tested meaningfully, and supports a compliant finished-product story in the target market.
Start with the product brief, not an ingredient trend
Hexapeptide, copper peptide, oligopeptide, tetrapeptide and pentapeptide concepts are all commercially interesting, but they solve different marketing and formulation problems. Define whether the product is intended for fine-line, firming, brightening, under-eye or soothing positioning before building the peptide shortlist.
Four filters for peptide selection
- Identity and documentation: confirm cosmetic INCI, supplier specification, storage and lot documentation.
- Compatibility: evaluate pH, solubility, excipients and interactions with the dissolvable matrix.
- Process exposure: consider temperature, time, moisture and drying history.
- Evidence plan: decide how identity, content, stability or performance will be assessed for the finished concept.
Single peptide versus multi-peptide blend
A single-peptide story is easier to communicate and may simplify compatibility work. A multi-peptide blend can create differentiation, but every additional active increases formulation and evidence complexity. Concentration should be set through feasibility and testing, not by adding the largest possible label number.
A stronger supplier question
Instead of asking “Can you make a copper peptide patch?”, ask which matrix, process window, packaging barrier and stability approach the supplier proposes for the candidate copper peptide. That question reveals whether the development path is truly activity-aware.
